Tea Party!

Today, one of our very good friend's had a tea party for her little girl, Lydia, who is just 9 months younger than Sammi and is one of Sammi's best friends. They had it at a real tea house and it was just so adorable! Sammi had such a great time. She had a scone, and little sandwiches and cookies and in this picture she is enjoying a chocolate covered cherry. She really surprised me with how much she ate, especially since everything was new to her.

They each had their own little tea cup too with pink lemonade to drink!

The kids also played dress up with some hats and beads the tea ladies had and they got to make these foam crowns.

Abigail mostly hung out in her carseat and was her usual pleasant self! She enjoyed all the attention and activity that was going on!

And although Madeline said she had a good time once we were in the van heading home, she mostly sat there looking like this the entire time. (You can see her oh so happy face in the first picture as well).

I guess it was too overwhelming for her. This was one of the few moments when she was actually sitting in the chair and not on my lap. And she didn't touch a thing on her plate. But, they were nice and let us take everything home and she scarfed it all down on the way home!
She has been like this a lot lately, and it's often really hard for me to tell if she is just putting on a show, or if she is truly just that shy and anxious when she is in new environments and around new people. Maybe it's a combination of both. But when she gets like this, she lays it on strong and pretty much acts like I am torturing her and she is the most pitiful child in the whole world. VERY DRAMATIC! I'm sure my Mom is having flashbacks from my childhood :)
She behaved this way the other night when we were at our friends house, and it was a place she has been to many times and knew the people very well. But then tonight we went out to dinner and she stayed at a completely new daycare and she was totally fine and had a great time. So who knows! I'm sure a lot of it has to do with her age. She had a meltdown this morning for half an hour b/c I put too much milk in her cheerios! Ahhh, the joys of the terrible twos :)
Anyways, besides managing Madeline, the tea party was such a delight and so much fun! Sammi loved it and it was like a little girls dream come true :)

i know! It was such a good idea! The tea house is actually in Springdale and its' called Alexander's tea house. It was really nice and adults can just go for tea and food too. I might have to have one of the girls birthday parties there one year. The ladies there were so friendly and nice. They were helping with all the kids and babies and gave us their full attention. It was a lot of fun!

oh man, i hear you on the terrible two's! it can just take one small thing, like you said about the cheerios... :( i'm waiting for camden to start all the drama, since you know he's so much like maddie! hopefully you are on the home stretch with that, since she is nearing the three year mark!

anyway, that looks like such a fun time! what a nice idea. and good job to Sammi for trying all those new things! you should tell her preschool teacher. :)

ha! your right Kylee, I didn't even think about that. She had no problem trying those new things!

I don't think 3 is much better than 2 though! It seems 3 is almost worse b/c they are so in between toddler and big kid all year and can't figure themselves out. 4 is the magic age and I almost wish Sammi would stay 4 forever! No tantrums, independent, and very helpful, understanding and reasonable!
